Pfc John Holick attended high school for four years and was a paymaster employed by the Mutual Rough Hat Company, before he enlisted in New Haven, Connecticut on 30 September 1943.

In January 1945, he was severely wounded in action by artillery shell fragments in the buttock and hip. He died of his wounds on 27 January. The exact location where he died is not known.
