Pfc William B. Thompson attended high school for two years and was a chauffeur, employed by the Ferguson - Oman Company.

He enlisted at Camp Shelby, Mississippi on 5 March 1943.

From March 1944 to April 1944 he was hospitalized in Italy for cold injuries at his feet. In September 1944 he was severely wounded in action by artillery shell fragments in the intestines. He died of his wounds on 15 September 1944. The exact location is not known.
