1st Lt Robert E. Evans attended Albuquerque High School and Cornell University. He graduated from the New Mexico Military Institute in 1940.

He was a cattleman on the family ranch.

In April 1942 he enlisted in Albuquerque, New Mexico and had his training at Fort Riley, Kansas and Camp Lockett in California.

He joined A Company on 21 September 1944. He was reported wounded on 27 September 1944 near Rupt-sur-Moselle, France.

He was assigned to command A Company on 31 October 1944.

On 22 November 1944 he was awarded the Silver Star Medal for gallantry during the assault on Nayemont, France. Two days later he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his actions near Bourg-Bruche, France.

The exact date when he was reported wounded in action a second time and the location where he died is not known.
