Pvt V.O. Whitehead attended high school for four years and was a foreman employed by the Kristal Company.

He enlisted at Camp Shelby, Mississippi on 11 July 1944 and was sent overseas in January 1945.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments to the thorax.
