Pvt Clayton E. Hamm was a meat cutter before he enlisted in Brewer, Maine on 19 November 1943.He was shot near the heart as he crossed an open field east at the crossroads at le Col du Haut Jacques. G Company walked into an ambush of at least a company of German soldiers as they crossed an open field. German rifle fire rained down around them. He was evacuated to a first aid station, but died on the way.
