Pfc Evan W. Proffit was a farmhand and also employed by the Pruden Coal Company.

He was severly wounded in action in the vicinity of Alspach-Orby, France and died of his wounds on 5 January 1945, which were caused by artillery shell fragments. The exact date when he was reported wounded in action and the location of where he died, are not known.
