Pvt Walter S. Coons was a welder employed by the National Analins & Chenuerl Company before he enlisted at Fort Dix, New Jersey on 28 June 1944.

He was severely wounded in action by small arms fire in the abdomen, back and pelvis. He died of his wounds on 27 March. The exact date when he was reported wounded in action and the location where he died, is not known.
