2nd Lt Joseph S. Ancavage attended high school for four years and was employed by the American Chain and Cable Company before he joined the U.S. Army Reserve in Wilkes-Barre on 20 May 1941.From March 1942 to 6 December 1942, he served in the Pacific Theater of Operations.
In January 1944 he was sent overseas to Italy.
For his actions on 3 March 1944, in Italy, he was awarded with the Silver Star Medal.
