Pfc Robert C. Pelton graduated from Herkimer High School, attended one year of college and was an oil dealer.

He joined the New York National Guard in 1933 and reenlisted in Boston, Massachusetts on 27 December 1943.

His brother, T/5 Richard M. Pelton, was one of over 65 servicemen killed by a V-1 bomb in London in 1944. He is buried at Cambridge American Cemetery.
