Pvt Robert A. Green attended high school for two years and was employed by the Albemarle Paper Mfg. Co.

He enlisted in Richmond, Virginia on 8 June 1943.

In March 1944, he was wounded in Italy by artillery shell fragments in his back.

From May 1944 to June 1944 he was hospitalized for wounding his loin after falling in a hole.
