Pfc William L. Killen attended high school for three years and was a heat treater employed by the Aker Pure Oil Station.

He enlisted in Indianapolis, Indiana on 22 November 1943 and was sent overseas in April 1944.

In October 1944, he was reported wounded in action in France by artillery shell fragments to his hand and leg. He was hospitalized until November.

After returning to duty, he was killed by artillery shell fragments to his head.
