Pvt John J. Chinchilla was a foreman, employed by the National Electric Co. before he enlisted.

He enlisted in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania on 23 April 1943, had his basic training at Fort Meade, Maryland and was sent overseas on 18 November 1943.

On 30 January 1944 he was killed in action in the vicinity of Palermo, Sicily, by small arms in his back.

He was first buried at the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery.

At the request of his family he was reburied next to his brother, 1st Lt Francis P. Chinchilla.
