Pfc John W. Harris graduated from the Blair Jr. High School and was a stock clerk, employed at the Norfolk Naval Supply Depot.

He enlisted in Richmond, Virginia on 5 July 1943 and had his training at Camp Fannin, Texas.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments in his back.
