1st Lt Earl E. Krampe attended college for four years and was employed by the Van Buren Township Trustee as a teacher before he enlisted at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana on 13 May 1941.

In January 1945 he was wounded in action and returned to duty on 26 March 1945.

He was killed trying to save his men by sheltering them for a German bomber attack in a basement of a building.

He was first buried at the American Military Cemetery in Bensheim, Germany.
