Pfc Kenneth R. Van Demark attended high school for one year and worked in a machine shop before he enlisted in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 4 May 1943. He was sent overseas in October 1943.

He was severely wounded as a passenger in a jeep during an accident and later died of his wounds at the 44th Evacuation Hospital that was stationed in Rotenburg an der Fulda, Germany at that time.
