Sgt Beryl E. McFarland attended college for one year and owned a filling and gas service station.He enlisted in Akron, Ohio on 5 August 1943.
He was awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously for his actions on 30 October 1944 in the vicinity of Le Haut Jacques, east of Les Rouges Eaux. He was killed that day by small arms fire to his abdomen.
