Pfc Bernard J. Gallagher attended high school for one year and was a messenger boy, employed by the Western Union.

He volunteered for the Army of the United States in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 10 June 1942 and was sent overseas on 17 October 1943

He was killed by artillery shell fragments.
