Pfc William J. Garvey attended high school for three years and was employed by the Wright Aero Co.

He enlisted in Newark, New Jersey on 3 April 1943.

In March 1944, he was hospitalized in Italy for a wound at his great toe, caused by small arms fire. He was released from hospital in June.

He was killed in action by artillery shell fragments.
