Pfc Donald W. Hurd graduated in 1941 from Haverstraw High School and was employed by the Haverstraw Industrial Terminal.

He enlisted on 29 January 1943 and he was sent overseas in June 1944.

In November 1944, he was reported wounded in action in France by artillery shell fragments at his shoulder. After recovering he rejoined his unit.

He was killed by artillery shell fragment in the abdomen.
