Pfc Charles R. Sherman graduated from Smyrna High School.

He worked on the family farm before he enlisted at Camp Wolters, Texas on 22 April 1944. He had his basic training at Camp Hood, Texas and then sent to Fort Meade, Maryland before going overseas in October 1944.
