S/Sgt Rafael V. Calva was an artist employed by the Mason Manufacturing Company before he enlisted in Los Angeles, California on 12 March 1943.

He was awarded the Silver Star medal for his action on 29 February 1944 in the vicinity of Cisterna, Italy, during the German counter attack on the Anzio beachhead.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments.
