Sgt Martin L. Dodd attended high school for four years and worked on the family farm before he enlisted at Camp Dodge Herold, Iowa on 12 January 1944.

In January 1945 he was hospitalized for burns, caused by artillery shell fragments. On 15 March 1945 he was killed by artillery shell fragments in the neck and thorax.
