S/Sgt Robert Watson was employed by John Mathes Carter before he enlisted at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia on 2 December 1942.He was awarded the Silver Star medal posthumously for his actions on 26 December.
He was killed by small arms fire in the neck.
Sgt Watson is remembered at Johnson Roan View Cemetery in Roan Mountain, Carter County, Tennessee with a memorial marker.
