Pvt John P. Cole graduated from Needham Broughton High School in Raleigh in 1931 and attended college for two years. He was a clerk employed by the C. E. Taylor Lance Incorporation.He enlisted in January 1944 and was sent overseas in July 1944.
In September 1944 he was wounded by small arms fire in the kidney. He died of complications caused by ascites and nephritis. The exact location where he died is not known, most likely in a hospital in France.
