Pfc Leonard V. Tansey attended Watervliet High School and was a metal dipper.

He enlisted in Albany, New York on 10 April 1943 and was sent overseas in September 1943 and participated in the invasion campaigns of North Africa and Sicily.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments in his face.
