He enlisted in June 1941 and was sent overseas in February 1942.

He participated in the North African campaign and later fought in southern France and Luxembourg.

Pvt Clemons is remembered at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia with a memorial marker.
