Sgt Robert E. Newton worked on the family farm before he enlisted at Camp Croft, South Carolina on 3 November 1942.He was wounded in November 1943 by artillery shell fragments in his leg. He was discharged from hospital in June 1944.
He was killed by a bullet in his leg.
