Pvt Louis J. Swintek attended two years at Lincoln High School and was a machinist employed by the Bardons Oliver Co. before he enlisted in Cleveland, Ohio on 7 September 1943.

On 9 November 1944 and the days after, the 15th Infantry Regiment was clearing out the enemy positions along the west bank of the Meurthe River north of St. Dié and up to Etival-Clairefontaine, France. Pvt Swintek was wounded in action during this period.

He died on 12 November from his wounds, caused by artillery shell fragments in the abdomen. The exact location is not known.
