S/Sgt Joseph M. Brown worked on the family farm and was also employed at the Looman and Crums Coal Mine.He enlisted at Fort Missoula, Montana on 19 February 1941.
He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross posthumously for his action on 15 August 1944 in St. Tropez, France.
He was killed by small arms fire in the cheek and radius.
