Pvt James R. Maddox graduated from Leon High School before he enlisted at Camp Blanding, Florida on 27 February 1943.In November 1943 he was hospitalized in Italy for cholangitis and had to recover until February 1944 when he was discharged.
He then was assigned to a special service unit to assist the chaplain in a hospital in north Africa.
In September 1944 he returned to combat duty.
He was killed by small arms fire in the side of his body.
On 10 October 1944 his brother William died in the hospital of Camp Blanding, Florida, from his wounds caused by a car accident.
