S/Sgt Lester W. Travis attended high school for four years and was a farmhand, employed by George Harrin before he enlisted in Syracuse, New York on 17 January 1941.
He first served in B Company, 39th Infantry Regiment of the 9th Infantry Division but probably transferred to the 15th Infantry Regiment in 1943.
In November 1943 he was wounded by small arms fire in his leg.
He was killed by small arms fire in the side of his body.
