Pfc Joseph A. Stankus attended Haverhill High School and was employed by the Washington Shoe Co. before he enlisted at Fort Devens, Massachusetts on 27 November 1942.In October 1944, in France, he was wounded by artillery shell fragments at the forearm. He was discharged from the hospital in December 1944.
In January 1945 he was wounded again by a artillery shell blast at the abdomen.
He was killed by artillery shell fragments at his head and shoulder.
