Sgt Paul S. Shimer attended high school for four years and was a retail manager employed by the J.C. Penny Co. Store.He enlisted at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland on 19 April 1944 and trained at Camp Walter in Texas. He was sent overseas in June 1944.
When he left England from the port of Southampton, England, he was celebrated as being the millionth American soldier to sail to Europe.
He was killed an artillery blast.
