Cpl Lawrence H. Connolly attended high school for two years and was an office machine operator.

He volunteered for the Air Corps of tha Army of the United States in New York City, New York on 24 October 1942. He was sent overseas in July 1944 and served in a ground crew of the Air Corps. At his own request, he was transferred to the infantry.
