Pfc Russell N. Golden attended high school for four years and worked in a paper mill before he enlisted in Binghamton, New York on 29 November 1942.On 23 September, he was reported seriously wounded in action when the 3th Battalion moved out from the eastern point of the Bois de la Rumont towards Bratte and St. Jean against moderate enemy resistance. By the end of the day the 3th Battalion took positions on high ground in the La Haye wood, West of Moivron. The exact location where Pfc Russell died is not certain.
