Pvt Claude W. Cooke enlisted at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, on 16 July 1941. He was sent overseas in December 1943.

He was reported seriously wounded in action on 23 September 1944 by small arms fire in the abdomen when the 2nd Battalion took positions on the road from Niederfeilen to Ettelbruck. After recovering, he rejoined his unit.

Early December 1944 he was wounded by artillery shell fragments on the chin and in his face. The exact date and the location where he died is not known.
