Pfc Herbert J. Rider attended Mechanicsburg High School. He joined the Regular Army in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on 20 September 1940.In November he was reported lightly wounded in action by artillery shell fragments on his nose and eye.
He was killed by a bullet in the thorax.
