T/5 Walter E. Snyder graduated from Lykens High School with the class of 1938 where he was member of the school band and the 1937-38 champion football team.He enlisted in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on 9 February 1942 and served as a bugler at Camp Quincy, Massachusetts, Fort Eustice, Virginia, Camp Stewart, Georgia and Camp Gordon, Georgia. He was transfered to the infantry and after a short training was sent overseas on 1 February 1945.
His father was mayor, owned a jewelry store and was an optometrist.
He was killed by sniper fire in the chest.
