S/Sgt Erwin C. Shafer attended high school for four years and was an actor before he joined the National Guard in Paulding County, Ohio on 15 October 1940.In August 1944 he was wounded in the leg and wrist by artillery shell fragments. He was discharged from the hospital in September.
He was killed by artillery shell fragments in his thorax.
