Pvt Charles Brinkley was employed at the Mount Airy Knitting Company as a mechanic where he was popularly known as "Buck" Brinkley.He enlisted at Fort Bragg in North Carolina on 28 June 1944.
He was probably killed when his unit tried to liberate Hosingen, Luxembourg. He had been overseas five weeks when he was killed.
He was initially buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Foy, Belgium in 10 February 1945. He was disinterred on 7 September 1948 and given his final resting place at Henri-Chapelle on 6 November 1948.
