1st Lt William P. Kelly attended Edgewood High School for four years and was a bookkeeper at the Wisconsin Power and Light Company.

He joined the National Guard in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on 12 October 1942 and went overseas on 22 October 1944.

He was reported seriously wounded in action on 26 November when F Company was holding defensive positions on high ground in the vicinity of Zimming, France.
