More information

Sgt Mulford C. Jones was a sales clerk before he enlisted at Camp Shelby, Mississippi on 6 April 1944.

He was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic achievement in Belgium on 26 December 1944. The citation reads in part: "On the night of 26 December 1944, Sgt Jones, assistant squad leader as a member of a patrol, penetrated enemy infested woods to reach the town of Bastogne, Belgium, held by besieged American forces. Improvising camouflaged clothing from white parachutes, to blend with the weather conditions, he went through active enemy machine gun positions and greatly assisted in securing vital information from the headquarters of the besieged troops and returned safely to the battalion he served."
