Pfc Merle D. Tressler graduated from Meyersdale High School in 1932 and was an inspector before he enlisted at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland on 16 March 1944.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments in the thorax.

Pfc Tressler is remembered at Union Cemetery in Meyersdale, Somerset County, Pennsylvania with a memorial marker.
