Abraham Kahn graduated from El Paso High School where he was a basketball star. He graduated from A&M College of Texas with a degree in petroleum engineering and a commission in the Army.

On 6 August 1941 he was married to Doris Gertrude Rothstein.

He was sent overseas in August 1943.

He was reported wounded in action in France for which he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal a first time and was awarded the Silver Star Medal for leading an assault group against the enemy.
