Sgt Raymond W. Juilfs enlisted in Camp Dodge Herrold, Iowa on 19 December 1942.

He entered service December 26, 1942 and was stationed at Fort Knox, Ky., and Indiantown, Gap. Pn., before going overseas. His last furlough was in July, 1943. He went overseas in September, 1943, and was stationed in England before going to France on D-Day. Sgt. Juilfs was with Hodgin's First Army in the Third Armored Division and had been in the front lines on the big push that has resulted in the Rhine crossing and crumbling of the Nazi west wall.

He married Darlene Hamer on 23 December 1942. They had one son, Jimmy Ray, who was 11 months when his father died.
