Pvt Arthur J. Van Vleck joined the Regular Army in Camp Grant, Illinois on 9 October 1941.

Hee was reported wounded in action on 29 June 1944 and returned to duty after having hospitalization in England for six weeks.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Solers, France.
