More information
1st Lt Fred D. Little graduated from Wethersfield High School for 4 years and worked at the Colt Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Company. He enlisted in Hartford, Connecticut on 16 October 1941.He was awarded the Silver Star Medal for gallantry in action on 4 to 6 August in France. As regimental reconnaissance officer, he had the mission to maintaining contact between front and rear elements. De citiation stated that "he performed his duties in an outstanding manner, making numerous trips to the front line units, passing through pockets of resistance which had been by-passed on many occasions. His method of transportation was by a quarter-ton truck which afforded little protection from heavy enemy fire. The succesful completion of the task force's mission was aided greatly through the action of Lt Little and his determined devotion to duty won for him the admiration of the men with whom he served."
He was initially buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Fosse, Belgium.
