More information
Cpl Robert A. Rainey attended Gerdiner High School where he played football until he was sidelined by an injury. He enlisted in the Army on 13 November 1943.
His niece, Mrs. Mary Bihn, recalled that "Before he left for the train, he spent time with me and my cousins rolling down the banking in the front yard. He was still a boy himself and he enjoyed playing with us." She would like people to know this about her uncle, "That he cared for his mother and worried about her even as he fought the war, that he was an atlete and was good at whatever he tried, that he was a lot of fun and we all loved him."
