S/Sgt James P. Kratz enlisted in Chicago, Illinois on 18 June 1941.He studied Liberal Arts at the University of Illinois.
He assisted his father in supervising their extensive land holdings before entering the service in 1940. He was released from the army in November, 1940, and recalled in February, 1941. He had been overseas since October, 1943.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Cemetery in Fosse, Belgium.
He is remembered at the Monticello Cemetery in Monticello, Piatt County, Illinois.
