Cpl James A. Padgett enlisted at Camp Blanding, Florida on 29 January 1942.

He worked on a farm before he enlisted.

A half-track and three M5A1 Stuart light tanks were send out to find two trucks of B Company of the 23rd Armored Engineer Combat Battalion who were missing since the day before.
